New year flow
What does flowing into the New Year look like?
The New Year brings excitement - the sense of a “fresh start”. I’m normally drawn to setting goals - which I still did this year. However, this new year came with a sense of “heaviness” I wasn’t expecting. In meeting with my own coach, I was reminded that our thoughts, feelings, beliefs come down to our identity - who we are at our core. My feelings of “heaviness” or this feeling of being “off” drew me back down to something within my core, or my identity. Through deep thought and a deep “breaking down” process I realized I was feeling heaviness around not feeling like I have enough time to get everything done that I want/need to this year. Down to my identity I felt like I was someone who doesn’t have enough time.
Here’s the thought process that followed to help me work through this “time” issue I felt deeply:
Why do I feel like I don’t have enough time?
I am not accomplishing everything I want to in a day
What sort of things am I expecting myself to accomplish?
[listed everything out]
If I listed out the things I NEEDED to get done, do I have enough time for those in a day?
Yes
Do I have any more or less time than other people?
No, we are all working with the same amount of time
How can I plan my day around things that NEED to get done?
[thought through my schedule]
Does this schedule make me feel happy
No
What things do I need to change to bring happiness and joy into my day while still accomplishing everything that NEEDS to get done?
Doing something each day that I WANT to get done
Do I have enough time in the day to do 1 thing I WANT to do?
Yes
[rethought through my desired schedule of balancing the things I NEED to do and incorporating a WANT]
VERSUS feeling like I needed to accomplish everything on the “NEED” list and “WANT” list
Through also working with my coach she said a powerful reminder in a moment of overwhelm is to stop and ask yourself “What would bring me joy in this exact moment?” and find something to lighten and brighten your day.
We are the masters of our time and it’s up to us to reset and allow ourselves to flow with time. Time doesn’t need to feel constricting when you interlace the things that bring you JOY.
